COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion Design program with a profile in Costume for Cinema and Television at LaSalle College Montréal offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for the costume design industry. Over six semesters, students study a variety of courses starting with foundational skills such as Composition of Simple Garments (90 hours), Assembling Principles (45 hours), and Designer Profession (45 hours), alongside Graphic Process Application and Visual Presentation (90 hours), and Raw Materials study (45 hours). The curriculum progresses to more advanced topics including Composition of Various and Elaborated Garments, Style Research by Draping, and Fashion Concepts, with emphasis on fashion phenomena, garment construction, and computer applications. Students also explore Fashion and Society and develop skills in Fashion Product Development. The fourth semester introduces specialized courses like Detailed Planning and Prototypes, Trend Analysis, and Defining Characteristics of Costume Collections. In the final semesters, focus shifts toward collection elaboration, garment evaluation for costume, portfolio creation, fashion promotion, and integration projects tailored to target markets. Practical courses on Buying and Selling of Products, Presentation and Evaluation of Collections, and Fashion Design Profiles prepare students for real-world application. General education complements technical training with Physical Education (90 hours), Humanities (150 hours), Language and Literature (240 hours), Second Language (90 hours), and Complementary courses (90 hours), ensuring graduates have a well-rounded skill set, cultural awareness, and responsible citizenship needed to thrive in the creative and professional sectors of costume design.
