COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Photography diploma program at Langara College requires a minimum of 61 credits and offers a comprehensive curriculum combining technical skills, creativity, and business knowledge essential for success in the photographic industry. Students take core courses such as Entrepreneurship for Creative Industries I and II, which prepare them for the business aspects of photography. Technical skills are developed through courses in technical photography, studio lighting, and digital workflow, while creativity is fostered in ideation courses. Digital imaging skills are enhanced through a sequence of digital imaging courses. Specialized courses include portrait photography, commercial photography, and a practicum that provides real-world experience. Portfolio development is supported through courses focused on creating and presenting photographic work. Industry knowledge is gained through photographic industry topics courses. Additionally, students select 12 credits from a range of courses including visual culture, history of photography labs, photojournalism, documentary photography, video and sound for photographers, and publishing courses. Communication skills are strengthened through courses such as interpersonal communications or communications for creative professionals. This diverse curriculum equips students with the technical expertise, artistic vision, and entrepreneurial skills necessary to thrive in the fast-paced and evolving photographic industry.
