COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Degree Diploma in Nursing Practice in Canada requires a total of 50 credits spread over four terms, carefully designed to prepare Internationally Educated Nurses for professional practice and licensure in Canada. In Term 1, students complete 15 credits, including courses on the nursing profession and healthcare, clinical skills, cultural health, professional communication, and critical thinking and decision making. This foundational term introduces essential nursing concepts and skills necessary for effective healthcare delivery. Term 2 continues with another 15 credits, focusing on advanced professional communication, clinical skills development, critical thinking, and the first clinical nursing practice course, where students begin applying their knowledge in practical settings. Term 3 comprises 10 credits, emphasizing clinical simulation, understanding common health challenges in Canada, and further development of critical thinking and decision-making skills. This term deepens clinical judgment and prepares students for complex healthcare environments. The final term, Term 4, is devoted entirely to Clinical Nursing Practice II, a 10-credit course providing an immersive clinical experience to consolidate all learning and prepare students for real-world nursing roles. Together, these courses build the knowledge, communication, cultural competence, and clinical skills needed to meet British Columbia’s nursing standards. The program integrates classroom learning, clinical labs, and practice placements to foster competent, compassionate, and culturally safe nursing professionals ready to engage in multidisciplinary healthcare teams and provide equity-oriented care to diverse populations in Canada.
