COURSE CURRICULUM

The curriculum for this program provides a comprehensive foundation in biological sciences and health studies, designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for advanced study or careers in life sciences and health-related fields. Core biology courses include BIOL 1115 (General Biology I) and BIOL 1215 (General Biology II), each worth 4 credits, followed by advanced topics such as BIOL 2315 (Biochemistry), BIOL 2330 (Introduction to Genetics), and BIOL 2415 (Cell Biology), all 3-credit courses. Chemistry is well-covered with CHEM 1120 and 1220 (General Chemistry I and II) and further advanced by CHEM 2316 and 2416 (Organic Chemistry I and II), all 4-credit courses. Physics is introduced through PHYS 1101 (Physics I for Life Sciences), also 4 credits. Students take HSCI 1130 (Foundations of Health Science) as a key course and select three electives from specialized health science topics, including perspectives on cancer, immunology, mental health, disability, and ecological determinants of health. Mathematics requirements include one calculus course, either MATH 1171, 1173 with 1183, or MATH 1253, ensuring solid quantitative skills. Statistical and data analysis skills are supported through one of PSYC 2321 or statistics courses such as STAT 1123, 1124, or 1181. To develop strong communication skills, students must complete two university-transferable English courses, totaling 6 credits. Additionally, two university-transferable electives (6 credits) offer flexibility for students to explore complementary areas of interest. This curriculum ensures a balanced and rigorous academic preparation that integrates biology, chemistry, physics, health sciences, mathematics, and communication, providing a strong platform for further university transfer or professional advancement.
