COURSE CURRICULUM

Langara College’s Financial Management Diploma program requires students to complete a minimum of 60 credits, offering a solid foundation in accounting and finance while allowing flexibility for career-focused or academic advancement. Core courses include BCAP 1200 (Business Computer Applications I), BUSM 1285 (Business Law), BUSM 1500 (Business Presentation Skills), FMGT 1115 and 1215 (Financial Accounting I and II), FMGT 2325 (Introductory Taxation), FMGT 2371 and 2474 (Financial Management I and II), and MATH 1118 (Mathematics of Finance). Students must also choose one of BUSM 1200 (Management Principles) or BUSM 2200 (Organizational Behaviour), and two communication or English courses from options such as CMNS 1115, CMNS 1118, ENGL 1123, 1127, 1128, or 1129. Additionally, one economics course (ECON 1220 or 1221) and one statistics course (STAT 1123, 1124, or 1181) are required. Students must complete either FMGT 2308 (Accounting Computer Applications) or take it later as one of three electives. Elective choices include courses like FMGT 1321 (Intermediate Accounting I), FMGT 2294 (Managerial Accounting Overview), FMGT 2421 (Intermediate Financial Accounting), FMGT 2423 (Management Accounting II), MARK 1115 (Introduction to Marketing), and others, depending on prior selections. Students planning to pursue a CPA designation are encouraged to take FMGT 1321, 1323, 2294, 2308, 2421, and 2423. Lastly, two general electives from arts, sciences, or career programs complete the curriculum. This diploma balances technical, analytical, and communication skills, preparing students for roles in accounting, finance, or further studies.
