COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Studies curriculum offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary program that integrates natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to address environmental issues. Students begin with foundational courses such as ENVS 1105 (Environmental Studies Program Seminar), ENVS 2100 (Applied Environmental Studies: CityStudio), ENVS 2410 (Environmental Law), and ENVS 2470 (Field School). Core geography courses like GEOG 1155 (Environmental Geography) and GEOG 1180 (Our Changing Environment: Climate and Ecosystems) provide essential context on physical and human environmental interactions. Biology courses, including General Biology I and II (BIOL 1115, BIOL 1215), Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Conservation Biology, deepen understanding of living systems. Chemistry options range from Environmental Chemistry for Arts Majors to General Chemistry I and II, supporting scientific literacy. Language and communication skills are strengthened through English courses (ENGL 1123, 1127, 1128, 1129, 1130) and communications courses (CMNS 1115, 1118, 2228). Economics principles (ECON 1220, 1221) are included to frame environmental issues within economic contexts. Electives cover diverse topics such as sustainable resource management, GIS, environmental ethics, political economy, environmental sociology, and environmental history, providing broad analytical perspectives. Additional courses in philosophy, political science, sociology, statistics, mathematics, and physics complement the program, encouraging critical thinking and quantitative skills.
