COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Digital Media and Design requires the completion of 60 credits through a multidisciplinary curriculum that blends communication, design, coding, and cultural studies. Students begin by choosing from a range of foundational communication or English courses such as CMNS 1114, ENGL 1123, or ENGL 1130, followed by a choice between interpersonal communication or business presentation skills. To build visual literacy and creativity, students select one course from options like Visual Culture, Film Production, Photography, or Publishing Explorations. Financial and business knowledge is developed through courses such as Accounting or Mathematics of Finance. Students also choose a course exploring cultural perspectives, such as Indigenous Studies, Cultural Anthropology, or Women's Studies. Creative foundations are further established through design or ideation-focused courses. Core DGMD courses build digital fluency across user experience (DGMD 1125, 2225), visual storytelling (DGMD 1155, 2255), design tools (DGMD 1175, 2275), and coding (DGMD 1415, 1425, 2425). Strategic communication and analysis are developed through DGMD 2155, while DGMD 2400 introduces students to AI applications in design. The program culminates in a capstone project (DGMD 2500), allowing students to showcase their skills and creativity. Additionally, courses such as DSGN 1300 (Design Thinking) and DSGN 1400 (Decolonizing the Design Process) foster ethical, inclusive, and innovative design thinking. This curriculum equips students with versatile skills in digital media, preparing them for dynamic careers or further studies in creative technology fields.
