COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminal Justice diploma program requires students to complete a total of 63 credits over two years. In the first year, students take foundational courses totaling 30 credits, which include key subjects such as Security (CJUS 1217), Introduction to the Criminal Justice System (CRIM 1115), Canadian Law and Legal Institutions (CRIM 1116), Criminology (CRIM 1125), Policing (CRIM 1215), Criminal Law (CRIM 1216), Government and Politics (POLI 1100), and Psychology courses covering biological, cognitive, and social aspects (PSYC 1115 and 1215). Students also select one English course from options such as Academic Writing or Essay Writing to enhance their communication skills. The second year builds on this foundation with 33 credits focused on advanced topics and professional skills. Courses include Business Presentation Skills (BUSM 1500), Professional Skills and Reporting for Criminal Justice (CJUS 2418), Written Communications (CMNS 1118), and Research Methods in Criminology (CRIM 1220). Further specialization is provided through courses in Corrections (CRIM 2315), Criminal Law and Court Procedure (CRIM 2316), Ethics in Justice and Law (CRIM 2417), and Psychology focusing on mental health and group dynamics (PSYC 2326 and 3220). Additionally, students choose two courses from topics such as Women and the Justice System, Multiculturalism in Criminal Justice, or Youth Law (CRIM 1213, 2415, 2416). This comprehensive curriculum ensures students gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and critical insights necessary for successful careers in criminal justice and related fields.
