COURSE CURRICULUM

Diploma in Computer Studies, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, covering a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in computer science and information systems. Core courses include essential subjects such as Business Presentation Skills (BUSM 1500), Web Development I (CPSC 1030), Algorithms and Data Structures I (CPSC 1160), Object-oriented Computing (CPSC 1181), Unix Tools and Scripting (CPSC 1280), Networking (CPSC 1480), and Database Systems (CPSC 2221). Students who do not meet the math prerequisites for Algorithms and Data Structures I are encouraged to use elective credits to improve their math skills. In addition, students must choose one course from Introduction to Programming (CPSC 1040) or Introduction to Web Programming (CPSC 1045), and one course from Introduction to Computer Science (CPSC 1050), Introduction to Computer Electronics (CPSC 1401), Systems Analysis & Design (CSIS 1300), or Fundamentals of Microcomputers (CSIS 1410). Program Design options include Program Design (CPSC 1150) or Program Design for Engineers (CPSC 1155). Communication skills are emphasized through two courses selected from Interpersonal Communications (CMNS 1115), Written Communications (CMNS 1118), Advanced Written Communications (CMNS 2228), or various English courses, with options including academic writing and literature studies. Students also must complete one approved business course, excluding certain cooperative education classes, and three advanced electives from CPSC or CSIS courses numbered above 2000. Lastly, four university-transferable electives from any department are required, with at least one numbered 2000 or above. This well-rounded curriculum ensures graduates gain both technical expertise and practical communication and business skills, preparing them for success in the computer science field.
