COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Arts and Science (Commerce) at Langara College requires completion of 63 credits across four terms, carefully structured to cover foundational and advanced business topics. In Term One, students select one calculus course, typically MATH 1174 or its equivalents, along with one academic writing course from options like ENGL 1123, 1127, or 1128, and one principles of economics course, either microeconomics (ECON 1220) or macroeconomics (ECON 1221). Two electives complete the 15 credits for the term. Term Two continues with a choice of English courses focusing on modern literature or film and economics courses that complement Term One. Students also complete three electives, maintaining a 15-credit load. Term Three introduces core commerce subjects such as Financial Accounting Overview (FMGT 2293) and Descriptive and Elementary Inferential Statistics (STAT 1181), alongside choices in Managerial Economics (ECON 2296), Introduction to Marketing (MARK 1115), and Quantitative Methods in Business (MATH 2310), with flexibility for electives, totaling 18 credits. In Term Four, students study Organizational Behaviour (BUSM 2200) and Intermediate Statistical Inference (STAT 2225), alongside courses like Managerial Accounting Overview (FMGT 2294) or The Economics of Capital Assets and Project Evaluation (ECON 2298), plus additional electives to reach 15 credits.
