COURSE CURRICULUM

Students must complete a minimum of 61 credits, covering a broad curriculum designed to provide a strong foundation in biological sciences along with essential skills in science literacy, mathematics, and the arts. The core courses include General Biology I and II (BIOL 1115 and 1215), and General Chemistry I and II (CHEM 1120 and 1220), each worth 4 credits. Students are required to select five courses from a diverse range of biology electives such as Introduction to Plant and Animal Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Vascular Botany, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Microbiology I and II, Ecology, Cell Biology, and Molecular Genetics, each generally 3 to 4 credits. For communication skills, two first-year university-transferable English courses are required, totaling 6 credits; alternatively, students may replace one English course with Intensive Science Literacy (SCIE 1113) or Science Literacy (SCIE 1114), each worth 4 credits. A minimum of two first-year university-transferable math or statistics courses (6 credits) is also necessary, with recommended courses including MATH 1162 or 1170 and STAT 1123. Additionally, students must complete four university-transferable science electives, which can be additional biology courses, totaling between 12 and 16 credits. To ensure a well-rounded education, two university-transferable arts courses (6 credits) are required. Students aiming to transfer to universities, especially in British Columbia, are advised to consult with their target institutions to confirm specific course requirements for their intended programs, ensuring their diploma credits align with university entry prerequisites.
