COURSE CURRICULUM

The program requires a total of 65 credits, combining a comprehensive curriculum of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and general university-transferable courses. Core biology courses include General Biology I and II (BIOL 1115 and 1215), Biochemistry (BIOL 2315), Cell Biology (BIOL 2415), and Molecular Genetics (BIOL 3430). Chemistry is covered through General Chemistry I and II (CHEM 1120 and 1220) and Organic Chemistry for the Biological Sciences (CHEM 2216). The physics requirement is fulfilled by Physics I and II with Calculus (PHYS 1125 and 1225). Mathematics plays a crucial role, with students selecting from Calculus I options—standard, with computer explorations, or life sciences applications—and similarly for Calculus II. Probability and Elementary Mathematical Statistics (STAT 2281) is also required. Computer science courses include Web Development I (CPSC 1030) and Data Base Systems (CPSC 2221), plus a choice among programming and algorithms courses such as Program Design (CPSC 1150 or 1155) or Algorithms and Data Structures/Object-oriented Computing (CPSC 1160 or 1181). Students must also complete two university-transferable English courses totaling six credits and two additional transferable courses to ensure a well-rounded education. For students who do not meet the prerequisites for General Biology I, BIOL 1111 is recommended as an elective. This curriculum balances scientific depth with practical computational skills and foundational courses, preparing students for further study or careers in biological sciences and related fields.
