COURSE CURRICULUM
This program requires a total of 60 credits and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in engineering principles, preparing them for university-level engineering studies. The curriculum includes essential courses such as Introduction to Computer Science (CPSC 1050), Engineering Design and Drafting (CPSC 1091), and Control Systems and Sustainable Engineering Design (CPSC 1491), each worth 3 credits, to build technical and design skills. Students strengthen their written communication through courses like Introduction to Academic Writing (ENGL 1123) and must choose between advanced communication or literature options. Mathematics is a core focus, with Precalculus Mathematics (MATH 1170), Calculus I and II options with computer explorations, Linear Systems or Linear Algebra courses, ensuring a strong analytical background. Physics courses include Introductory Physics, Physics I and II with Calculus, and Engineering Mechanics, totaling 12 credits, which emphasize understanding of physical principles crucial for engineering. Chemistry options provide flexibility, offering either Intermediate Chemistry combined with Engineering Chemistry or General Chemistry I and II, all fundamental to the program. Students also complete professional and societal context courses such as Engineering and Technology in Society (APSC 1010) and Process, Form, and Convention in Professional Genres (APSC 1050), or equivalent humanities or social science electives, to understand engineering's impact within society. Programming courses like Program Design for Engineers (CPSC 1155) prepare students for computational aspects of engineering. This structured curriculum equips students with the academic knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking necessary for successful transition into advanced engineering programs.
