COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film Arts Certificate – Acting program at Langara College requires a total of 30 credits over two terms, offering a comprehensive and practical education in screen acting. In Term 1, students complete 15 credits that focus on foundational skills essential to the craft. Courses include Techniques of Film Acting, where students develop core acting abilities for the camera, and Voice I, which enhances vocal techniques. Principles of Production and Collaboration: The Actor provide insight into the filmmaking process and teamwork in production environments. The term also includes the Art of the Short Film, allowing students to explore storytelling through short film projects.Term 2 also comprises 15 credits and advances students' skills with courses like Advanced Techniques and the Signature Tape, which helps actors create professional demo reels critical for auditions. Voice II continues vocal training, complemented by Audition Lab, where students gain hands-on experience in auditioning. Career Development for the Film Industry and Film Festival and Distribution prepare students for the business side of film, including networking and film promotion. The term culminates with a 6-credit Production Practicum for the Actor, providing real-world on-set experience and opportunities to apply classroom learning in professional environments. This balanced curriculum equips students with both creative and practical skills, enabling them to build a strong portfolio and confidence to succeed in the competitive film industry.
