COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the Associate of Science Degree in Physics, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, including core courses that provide a strong foundation in mathematics, chemistry, computing, and physics. Required courses include CHEM 1120 (General Chemistry I) for 4.0 credits, CPSC 1150 (Program Design) for 3.0 credits, and essential mathematics courses such as MATH 1171 (Calculus I), MATH 1271 (Calculus II), MATH 2362 (Linear Algebra), MATH 2371 (Calculus III), and MATH 2475 (Differential Equations), each worth 3.0 credits. The physics core consists of PHYS 1125 (Physics I with Calculus) and PHYS 1225 (Physics II with Calculus), both 4.0-credit courses, along with second-year physics including PHYS 2309 (Intermediate Experimental Physics I) for 2.0 credits, PHYS 2323 (Newtonian Mechanics) for 3.0 credits, PHYS 2409 (Intermediate Experimental Physics II) for 2.0 credits, and PHYS 2424 (Relativity and Quanta) for 3.0 credits. These courses offer theoretical understanding and hands-on laboratory experience essential for further studies or careers in physics and related disciplines. While not mandatory, CHEM 1220 (General Chemistry II) and CPSC 1160 (Algorithms and Data Structures I), each worth 4.0 and 3.0 credits respectively, are strongly recommended to support interdisciplinary competence and enhance transfer readiness.
