COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the general requirements for the Associate of Science Degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, including specific core courses and electives designed to build a strong foundation in computer science and related disciplines. Required courses include Introduction to Computer Science (CPSC 1050), Algorithms and Data Structures I (CPSC 1160), Object-oriented Computing (CPSC 1181), Algorithms and Data Structures II (CPSC 2150), and Linear Algebra (MATH 2362). Students must also choose between Program Design (CPSC 1150) or Program Design for Engineers (CPSC 1155), along with Unix Tools and Scripting (CPSC 1280) plus additional second-year CPSC courses totaling either 3 or 6 credits. Calculus I and II options include standard or computer exploration variants, such as MATH 1171 or 1173 combined with MATH 1183, and MATH 1271 or 1273 combined with MATH 1283. Communication skills are emphasized through courses like Written Communications (CMNS 1118), Introduction to Academic Writing (ENGL 1123), or literature courses including Modern Novel, Poetry, and Drama (ENGL 1129) or Modern Novel, Poetry, and Film (ENGL 1130). In addition, students must complete two university-transferable arts courses (excluding CMNS, ENGL, and MATH), two second-year science courses, and four university-transferable electives, ensuring at least one elective is a lab science course. This curriculum provides a comprehensive balance of programming, mathematics, communication, and science, preparing students for further study or careers in computer science and related fields.
