COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the general requirements for the Associate of Science Degree, students must complete a minimum of 66 credits that encompass a well-rounded curriculum combining computer science, mathematics, communication, and science courses. Core computer science classes include Introduction to Computer Science (CPSC 1050), Algorithms and Data Structures I and II (CPSC 1160 and 2150), Object-oriented Computing (CPSC 1181), and Linear Algebra (MATH 2362). Students are required to complete a Co-operative Work Placement I (COOP 2301) and Employment Strategies for Current Labour Markets (EXPE 2300) to integrate practical work experience and career readiness. Program Design options include CPSC 1150 or CPSC 1155 for engineers, while scripting skills are developed through CPSC 1280 combined with one or two second-year CPSC courses totaling 3 to 6 credits. Calculus I and II can be fulfilled with standard or computer exploration courses such as MATH 1171 or 1173 with MATH 1183 and MATH 1271 or 1273 with MATH 1283. Communication skills are addressed through courses like Written Communications (CMNS 1118), Introduction to Academic Writing (ENGL 1123), or literature classes including Modern Novel, Poetry, and Drama (ENGL 1129) or Modern Novel, Poetry, and Film (ENGL 1130). Additionally, students must complete two university-transferable arts courses excluding CMNS, ENGL, and MATH, two second-year science courses, and four university-transferable electives, with at least one being a lab science course. This comprehensive curriculum ensures a strong foundation for further academic success or careers in computer science and related fields.
