COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology department at Langara College offers a wide range of courses designed to give students both breadth and depth in their understanding of human behaviour, thought, and emotion. As part of the Associate of Arts Degree in Psychology, students must complete at least 60 credits, including specific core and elective psychology courses. The curriculum begins with two foundational courses: PSYC 1115, which covers biological, cognitive, and developmental psychology, and PSYC 1215, which explores social, personality, and abnormal psychology. These introductory courses provide a solid base in key psychological concepts and theories. Building on this foundation, students must also complete PSYC 2320, which introduces the principles and practices of research methods in psychology, and PSYC 2321, focused on data analysis and statistical techniques used in psychological research. In addition to these required courses, students must take at least six additional credits of 2000-level PSYC courses, allowing them to explore specific areas of interest such as health psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, or abnormal psychology in greater depth. This structured yet flexible approach ensures that students gain both a comprehensive overview of the discipline and the opportunity to specialize in topics aligned with their academic or career goals. The program equips students with essential skills in critical thinking, scientific inquiry, research design, and data interpretation. Whether students plan to pursue further studies in psychology at the university level or apply their knowledge in careers such as counselling, education, health care, or social services, this program offers a strong foundation for future success.
