COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the general requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, including a focused curriculum in Philosophy. All students are required to take PHIL 1100, Introduction to Philosophy: Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, and PHIL 1102, Introduction to Logic, each worth 3 credits. These courses provide foundational knowledge in ethical theory, social and political philosophy, and critical thinking skills through logic. Students then choose one course from PHIL 1101, Introduction to Philosophy: Knowledge and Reality, or PHIL 1103, Introduction to Philosophy of Science, which explore the nature of knowledge, reality, and scientific inquiry. For more advanced study, students select one course from PHIL 2201, Theory of Knowledge, or PHIL 2203, Metaphysics, both valued at 3 credits, allowing deeper engagement with epistemology or the study of existence. Additionally, students pick one course from PHIL 2202, Ethics, PHIL 2210, Contemporary Moral Issues, or PHIL 2226, Social and Political Philosophy, which focus on moral theory, current ethical debates, and political thought. Finally, students must complete at least two additional philosophy courses, totaling 6 credits, to broaden their understanding of diverse philosophical topics. This well-rounded curriculum equips students with critical thinking, reasoning, and ethical analysis skills essential for both academic advancement and various career paths. The philosophy courses emphasize clear thinking and the ability to engage thoughtfully with fundamental questions about knowledge, morality, and society.
