COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the general requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, including specific courses in Health Sciences. The curriculum requires completion of all foundational courses such as HSCI 1130 Foundations of Health Science, PHIL 1105 Biomedical Ethics, and SCIE 1114 Science Literacy. Students must choose one course from either ANTH 1120 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology or SOCI 1120 Introduction to Sociology: Models and Concepts. For biology requirements, students select between BIOL 1111 Concepts in Biology: Introduction to Human Biology or BIOL 1115 General Biology I. Health-related electives include choosing one from HSCI 1120 Introduction to Human Sexuality and Behaviour, HSCI 1140 Complementary and Alternative Medicine, HSCI 1160 Global Perspectives on Health, or HSCI 1180 Drugs and Society. Students must also complete four courses from advanced Health Sciences options such as HSCI 2207 Research Methods in Health Sciences, HSCI 2211 Perspectives on Cancer, Cardiovascular, and Metabolic Diseases, HSCI 2212 Perspectives on Immunology, Infectious, and Parasitic Diseases, HSCI 2214 Perspectives on Mental Health and Illness, HSCI 2215 Perspectives on Disability and Injury, HSCI 2216 Ecological Determinants of Human Growth, Development, and Health, and HSCI 2230 Evaluating Epidemiological Research. Additionally, students must choose one statistics or data analysis course from PSYC 2321 Data Analysis for Psychology, STAT 1123 Basic Probability and Statistics for Business, STAT 1124 Statistical Methods I, or STAT 1181 Descriptive and Elementary Inferential Statistics to complete their degree requirements. This comprehensive program prepares students with a strong foundation in health sciences and research methodologies.
