COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the general requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits, including a carefully structured curriculum in English studies. Students begin by selecting one foundational course from ENGL 1123 (Introduction to Academic Writing), ENGL 1127 (Essay Writing and Short Prose Selections), or ENGL 1128 (Short Prose Selections and Composition), each worth 3 credits. They then choose one course from ENGL 1129 (Modern Novel, Poetry, and Drama) or ENGL 1130 (Modern Novel, Poetry, and Film) to develop an understanding of literary forms and genres. All students are required to complete two essential literature courses: ENGL 2223 (English Literature to 1680) and ENGL 2224 (English Literature from 1680–1900), totaling 6 credits. Additionally, students select four courses from a broad range of options including Canadian Literature (ENGL 2225), Intermediate Composition (ENGL 2227), Survey of Narrative Film (ENGL 2230), World Literature in English (ENGL 2231), Prose Fiction (ENGL 2233), Literature from a Feminist Perspective (ENGL 2234), American Literature (ENGL 2235), Exploring Literature (ENGL 2237), Studies in Drama (ENGL 2238), Studies in Poetry (ENGL 2239), Intermediate Composition II (ENGL 2327), Studies in Canadian Cinema (ENGL 2330), and Film through Theory (ENGL 2430), each course worth 3 credits. Finally, students must complete one course from the creative writing and specialized literature group, including ENGL 1125, 1135, 1181, 1191, 2236, 2246, 2256, 2266, or 2276. This comprehensive 60-credit curriculum provides a solid foundation in English literature, critical analysis, and creative expression.
