COURSE CURRICULUM

Within the framework of the general requirements for the Associate of Arts Degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits in the Creative Writing program. This includes one course from ENGL 1123 (Introduction to Academic Writing), ENGL 1127 (Essay Writing and Short Prose Selections), or ENGL 1128 (Short Prose Selections and Composition), each worth 3 credits. Students must also complete one course from ENGL 1129 (Modern Novel, Poetry, and Drama) or ENGL 1130 (Modern Novel, Poetry, and Film). Additionally, all students are required to take ENGL 2223 (English Literature to 1680) and ENGL 2224 (English Literature from 1680–1900), each 3 credits. One more course must be chosen from a diverse list including ENGL 2225 (Canadian Literature), ENGL 2227 (Intermediate Composition), ENGL 2230 (Survey of Narrative Film), ENGL 2231 (World Literature in English), ENGL 2233 (Prose Fiction), ENGL 2234 (Literature from a Feminist Perspective), ENGL 2235 (American Literature), ENGL 2237 (Exploring Literature), ENGL 2238 (Studies in Drama), ENGL 2239 (Studies in Poetry), ENGL 2327 (Intermediate Composition II), ENGL 2330 (Studies in Canadian Cinema), and ENGL 2430 (Film through Theory). ENGL 2239 is recommended for those planning to take ENGL 2266 (Creative Writing: Poetry). Furthermore, students must complete three courses from the creative writing offerings such as ENGL 2236 (Creative Writing: Prose Fiction), ENGL 2246 (Creative Writing: Stageplay), ENGL 2256 (Creative Writing: Screenwriting), ENGL 2266 (Creative Writing: Poetry), or ENGL 2276 (Creative Writing: Non-Fiction), each worth 3 credits. This curriculum is designed to develop a broad understanding of literature and hone specialized creative writing skills.
