COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Arts Degree at Langara College requires the successful completion of a minimum of 60 credits that are eligible for transfer credit—either assigned or unassigned—at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, or the University of Northern British Columbia. Within these 60 credits, students must complete six credits in first-year English and at least 36 credits in arts. Of these 36 credits, a minimum of 18 must be at the second-year level and must span at least two different subject areas. This arts requirement must include six credits in the social sciences, six credits in the humanities (excluding English but including creative and performing arts), and an additional 24 credits in arts. Students are also required to complete nine credits in science, which must include at least three credits in mathematics, computing science, or statistics, and three credits in a laboratory science. Additionally, nine credits of first- or second-year courses are required; these may include university-transferable courses from career programs, kinesiology, or recreation. To graduate, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 across all courses. Importantly, no single course may be used to fulfill more than one specific requirement, ensuring a broad and balanced academic foundation. This structured yet flexible curriculum provides students with a strong liberal arts education and is designed to support seamless transfer into a bachelor’s degree program at a university, while also developing valuable academic and critical thinking skills applicable in various professional and academic settings.
