COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured over two years and offers a comprehensive education in agricultural science with a focus on animal handling, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. In Year 1, students take foundational courses that introduce key concepts in agriculture, biology, and business. Courses include Animal Handling, Welfare and Ethics, Beef Production, Agribusiness Simulation, Ecology & Field Biology, and Managing Rangeland Ecosystems. Students also gain plant knowledge through Field Botany & Plant Taxonomy and develop communication and technical skills in Scientific Writing & Computer Applications. Further studies in Statistics & Data Management, Introductory Soil Science, and Introduction to Agricultural Sustainability ensure students are well-rounded in both practical and theoretical aspects of agricultural science. In Year 2, the curriculum builds on this foundation with a deeper dive into economics, law, and technology. Required courses include Microeconomics, Beef Sustainability and Technology, Agricultural Law & Policy, Environmental Mapping & Technology, and Invasive Plant Ecology & Management. Students also study more specialized topics such as Applied Hydrology, Aquatic Habitat Protection, and Fertility Management. The year concludes with Agricultural Advocacy and an Industry Practicum, providing students with real-world experience and a strong understanding of the industry's current challenges and innovations. Each course is worth 3 credits, ensuring a balanced workload across both years.
