COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Science program includes a comprehensive set of foundational and specialized courses designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and address a wide range of environmental issues. The curriculum begins with an introduction to ecological principles and field biology methods, exploring the relationships between organisms and their environment. Students also study freshwater ecosystems, particularly lakes and rivers, focusing on their physical, chemical, and biological characteristics. Rangeland management is another key component, emphasizing the sustainable use of natural resources and the conservation of biodiversity within rangeland ecosystems. Plant identification and classification are covered through field-based botanical studies, while scientific writing and computer applications help students effectively communicate research findings and analyze environmental data. The program also includes instruction in statistical methods and data management, which are essential for scientific analysis and decision-making. A foundational course in inorganic chemistry supports understanding of environmental chemical processes, and training in environmental mapping technologies, such as GIS, provides students with the tools to collect and manage spatial data. Additionally, students gain insight into soil science, including soil properties, conservation, and management, as well as an introduction to wildlife biology, ecology, and conservation to understand the role of fauna in ecosystem dynamics.
