COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Education Certificate program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for work with young children and their families. The program requires the completion of 40 credits, covering a wide range of foundational courses that blend theory with practical application. Key courses include Communication Skills (CO 118), which develops essential interaction abilities, and two field placements (ED 109 and ED 110) that provide hands-on experience in early childhood settings. Students also study Observation and Play (ED 120) and Early Childhood Professionalism (ED 121), gaining insight into child development and ethical practices. Health, Safety, and Nutrition (HE 158) ensures learners understand the importance of wellbeing in childcare environments. Lifespan Studies I (HS 114) and Positive Behaviour Supports (HS 155) offer a deeper understanding of developmental stages and behavioural guidance. Creative expression is nurtured through Art, Music, and Movement Experiences (HS 180), while Literacy, Math & Science Experiences (HS 182) focus on early academic skill-building. Family Studies (HS 240) explores the vital role families play, and Infant and Toddler Care (SS 245) provides specialized knowledge for working with the youngest children.
