COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Management at Lakeland College, the second year includes two intensive 16-week practicums, accompanied by a capstone presentation and technical report due in late January or early February following the practicum experience. For students who have completed an environmental sciences diploma at Lakeland, these two years represent the third and fourth years of the program, while for others entering directly into the applied degree, they correspond to the first and second years. The Year 3 curriculum consists of 30 credits, including core courses such as Project Management, Communications for Environmental Professionals, Environmental Economics, Environmental Toxicology, Industry Monitoring and Protection, Ecosite Classification, Hydrogeology, Aquatic Habitat Protection, and Land Use & Regional Planning, along with a required soils course, either Soil Classification and Landforms or Advanced Soils depending on prior education. Year 4 is fully dedicated to practical experience with two 16-week practicums designed to provide hands-on learning in real-world environmental settings, totaling 30 credits. This structure ensures students graduate not only with theoretical knowledge but also with significant applied skills, industry experience, and professional competencies necessary for careers in environmental management and related fields.
