COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics graduate program offers a diverse range of advanced courses designed to provide students with a deep understanding of both theoretical and experimental aspects of modern physics. Core courses such as Advanced Quantum Mechanics I explore fundamental quantum concepts and techniques, including symmetry, tensor operators, and many-particle systems. Quantum Statistical Mechanics covers Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics with applications to phenomena like superconductivity and thermal conductivity. The Solid State Physics sequence delves into electron states in crystals, lattice vibrations, electron-phonon interactions, and transport and optical properties of solids, including polaron and superconductivity theories. Modern Optics introduces quantum optics topics such as atom-field interactions, optical cavities, and emerging subjects like negative refractive index and slow light. Experimental Methods I equips students with essential experimental techniques for physics research. Additionally, the Topics in Physics courses offer flexibility by addressing evolving subjects based on student interests and faculty expertise. Enrollment in these courses requires permission from the Chair or active status in the Physics graduate program, ensuring focused study and research.
