COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing Program with an Advanced Nursing Specialization is a six-credit program designed to provide comprehensive graduate-level nursing education. All students begin by completing 2.0 Full Course Equivalents (FCE) of core graduate nursing courses, which include Nursing Philosophy (NURS 5015), Qualitative Research (NURS 5016), Statistics (NURS 5017), and Quantitative Research (NURS 5018), each worth 0.5 FCE for a total of 2.0 FCE. Following this, students move into the Advanced Nursing Specialization where they complete 4.0 FCE focused specifically on advanced practice nursing. This specialization includes courses such as Advanced Nursing Practice Theory (NURS 5210, 0.5 FCE), Nursing Leadership (NURS 5211, 0.5 FCE), and Diversity, Equity and Social Justice (NURS 5213, 0.5 FCE), along with a significant clinical component, the Advanced Nursing Practicum (NURS 5805, 1.0 FCE). Additionally, students select 1.5 FCEs of electives either from Nursing or other faculties, with approval from the Graduate Coordinator, to tailor the program to their interests. The Advanced Nursing Specialization is delivered synchronously via web-based videoconferencing and teleconferencing, allowing flexible, real-time interaction between students and instructors regardless of location. The practicum component is a critical aspect of the program, requiring a triad relationship between the student, course leader, and an agency preceptor. Each student is assigned one practicum placement, which is determined based on their specific areas of interest and geographical location. Importantly, students are advised not to seek their own practicum placements, as these are coordinated by the program to ensure appropriate supervision and learning opportunities aligned with professional standards.
