COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Sciences graduate program offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary range of courses designed to support advanced study in public and population health, health promotion, epidemiology, policy, and research methodologies. Students in the Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs begin with foundational courses such as Health Sciences 5010, which introduces public health principles, and Health Sciences 5030, an introduction to biostatistics. A variety of specialized courses explore topics including food systems, ecological health, global public health, Indigenous health, and environmental and occupational health. Students can deepen their methodological skills through a series of qualitative and quantitative research courses, including advanced offerings like Biostatistics II, Qualitative Inquiry II, and Qualitative Analysis. Courses such as Epidemiology I and II, Health Policy, Program Planning and Evaluation, and Data Management and Analysis prepare students for rigorous public health work and research. The program also addresses issues in health ethics, vulnerable populations, northern and remote health, and sustainability. Special topics and directed studies allow for exploration of emerging issues tailored to students' interests. Practicum and thesis components provide hands-on experience and the opportunity for original research. At the PhD level, students engage with advanced seminars, research methodology, comprehensive exams, internships, and a dissertation. Courses like the Health Sciences Research Seminar foster scholarly development and professional engagement. Overall, the program offers flexibility, depth, and a strong research foundation, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex health challenges across various populations and contexts.
