COURSE CURRICULUM

The graduate course offerings in the Economics program at Lakehead University provide a comprehensive and rigorous foundation in advanced economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied economics. Core courses include Mathematical Economics (5111), Advanced Microeconomics (5113), Advanced Macroeconomics I and II (5117, 5118), and Econometrics I and II (5115, 5119), offering in-depth training in theoretical modeling, statistical analysis, and empirical research. Specialized electives such as Economics of Defence (5110), Labour Economics (5215), Industrial Organization (5233), Resource and Environmental Economics (5257), Fiscal Federalism (5279), and Game Theory (5315) allow students to explore specific fields of interest while applying economic principles to real-world issues. The program also includes special topics courses (5411, 5415), which vary based on faculty and student interests, and a Graduate Seminar or Research Paper (5801) that fosters research skills and independent study. Students in the Co-operative Education stream can complete two work terms (5990, 5992), gaining practical experience in the field of economics. Many courses are restricted to Economics majors and are offered in a 3-0 or 3-1.5 format, combining lectures and tutorial sessions.
