COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water Resource Science program’s curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education through a sequence of carefully structured courses over four years. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge with courses in Biology (1050 and 1051), Chemistry (1110 and 1130), Mathematics (1151 and 1152), Geology (1111 and 1131), Physics (1113), and Civil Engineering (1635). This foundational year establishes the core scientific principles necessary for understanding aquatic systems. The second year expands on this base with advanced Biology (2210), English (1015 or 1016), Civil Engineering (2431), multiple Geology courses (2214, 2217, 2219, 2310, 2318, and 3410), Geography (1150), Mathematics (2070), and a half-course elective from Type E, allowing students to begin integrating diverse perspectives relevant to water science. The third year emphasizes specialized study with courses such as Biology 2051, Natural Resources Management 4250, Geography 2232 and 2331, Water Resource Science 3094, Geology 3130 and 3310, Biology 4710, Civil Engineering 3738, and additional half-course electives from Chemistry, Geography, or Biology, along with Mathematics 4030, fostering advanced interdisciplinary knowledge and applied skills. In the fourth and final year, students complete their expertise with advanced courses including Biology 3112 and 4212, Geography 4231, Geology 3313, 4011, 4132, and 4137, Natural Resources Management 4459, and Water Resource Science 410, providing a capstone experience to synthesize learning and prepare for professional practice in water resource science and management.
