COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management is a four-year program designed to prepare students for careers in environmental stewardship, conservation, and sustainable resource management. All students follow a common curriculum in the first two years, focusing on foundational topics such as biology, chemistry, economics, geology, geography, and natural resources management, with courses like Biology 1050/1051, NRMT 1010/1094/1110, and Economics 2014. Students also fulfill the Indigenous Content Requirement through NRMT 2054 and complete a First Aid Certificate (NRMT 0990). In third and fourth year, students choose one of three specializations: Wildlife Conservation and Management, Conservation Planning and Management, or Sustainable Land Use. The Wildlife Conservation stream includes courses such as NRMT 3051, 3218, and Biology 3151, with restricted electives in Biology and Geography. The Conservation Planning stream offers advanced study in policy, spatial analysis, and conservation science, with courses including NRMT 3135, Geography 2331, and Political Science options. The Sustainable Land Use stream emphasizes land management, recreation, and political frameworks, including courses such as NRMT 3251, Outdoor Recreation 2755, and NRMT 4459. Across all specializations, fourth year includes a major capstone experience through NRMT 4010 and 4030 or NRMT 4111 and 4217. Graduates are well-equipped for roles in government, conservation, land use planning, and environmental consulting.
