COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Geography at Lakehead University is a four-year program that integrates the study of physical and human geography, emphasizing spatial patterns, environmental processes, and the relationships between people and the environment. The Indigenous Content Requirement is fulfilled through Geography 1190, taken in the first year alongside Geography 1170. Students also complete one FCE from a range of science-focused introductory courses (such as Anthropology, Biology, Computer Science, Geology, or Mathematics), two FCEs in Type C courses excluding Geography, and one additional elective. In second year, students deepen their geographical foundation with core courses including Geography 2232, 2251, 2271, 2331, and 2351, along with either Geography 2511 or 2811, a half-course in a Type C subject, and one and a half elective FCEs. Students interested in the Certificate in Geomatics are encouraged to take Geography 3253 in third year. The third year includes Geography 3215, one FCE in third-year Geography, one FCE in fourth-year Geography, one Type C elective outside of Geography, and one and a half FCE electives. In the final year, students complete one FCE in Geography at either the third or fourth year level, two additional fourth-year Geography FCEs, and two more Type C electives. The program is structured to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in geographic methods, with options to explore specialized topics such as climate change, conservation, GIS, and water resource management, preparing students for careers in environmental science, planning, or further academic research.
