COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Geoarchaeology is a four-year program that integrates Anthropology, Geography, and Geology to provide students with a multidisciplinary education focused on understanding ancient human activity through scientific analysis of the Earth's materials and landscapes. Students may enter, proceed in, and graduate from the program following University and Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies regulations, with all fourth-year course selections requiring approval from the Program Committee Chair. In the first year, students take foundational courses including Anthropology 1032 and 1034, Geography 1170, Geology 1111 and 1131, English 1015 plus an additional half FCE in English, one FCE from a selection of introductory Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics courses, and one half-course elective. The second year focuses on core subjects with courses such as Anthropology 2110, 2112, 2137, 2151, 2515, and either Anthropology 2517 or Geography 2811, a second-year Geography course (Geography 2331 or 2251 recommended), Geology 2214 and 2217, and one half-course elective. In the third year, students take two FCEs in third-year Anthropology, Geography 2351, either Geography 2232 or Natural Resources Management 2350, one FCE in Geology (Geology 3112 and Geology 3130/Geography 3315 recommended), and one FCE elective (either Mathematics 2310 and 2311 or Geography 2271 and a half-course elective recommended). The final year includes one FCE in fourth-year Anthropology, Geoarchaeology 4101 and 4901, Geology 3410, and one and a half FCE electives. This program equips students with strong analytical, fieldwork, and research skills relevant to careers in archaeology, environmental science, or heritage resource management.
