COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry at Lakehead University is a four-year program where all students complete a common first and second year before specializing in one of three areas: Forest Management, Forest Health and Protection, or Forest Products and Marketing during their third and fourth years. In the first year, students take courses such as Natural Resources Management 1094, 1010, 1110, Biology 1050 and 1051, Chemistry 1050 or 1110, Economics 2014, English 1015, Geography 1170, Geology 1131, and University Seminar 1014, alongside a non-academic requirement of a First Aid Certificate. The second year focuses on Natural Resources Management courses including 2094, 2013, 2030, 2054 (which fulfills the Indigenous Content Requirement), 2055, 2110, 2210, 2270, 2330, 2350, and Biology 2210. Specialization begins in the third year, where students in Forest Management take courses such as Natural Resources Management 3094, 3010, 3051, 3170, and others, along with electives; Forest Health and Protection students focus on courses including 3094, 3010, 3051, 3170, 3212, and 3213; while Forest Products and Marketing students take 3094, 3010, 3051, 3170, and related courses. In the fourth year, students continue specialization with advanced courses like Natural Resources Management 4094, 4212, 4213, 4214, and specific electives depending on their specialization. Restricted and open electives provide further customization and breadth, with guidance available from the Program Chair. This structure ensures students graduate with a strong foundation in forestry science, technical expertise, and professional readiness.
