COURSE CURRICULUM

Biology at any year with departmental consultation, provided they have attained a minimum 70% average in all previously completed Biology courses, and must maintain this average throughout the program. If the required average is not met, students may transfer to the Four-Year BSc (Biology Major) program. A total of at least ten and one-half full course equivalents (FCEs) in Biology must be completed over the four years. The program offers flexibility, allowing students to tailor their course selections to align with career goals. In the first year, students take Biology 1050 and 1051, Chemistry 1110 and 1130, one FCE from Mathematics (1151, 1152, 1171, 1172, or 2070), one FCE from Type C (non-Biology), and additional electives. Students intending to apply to professional schools are advised to take Physics 1113 and 1133 or 1211 and 1212. In second year, core courses include Biology 2171, 2671, 2018, Chemistry 2111 and 2211, and select electives. Students should tailor second-year Biology options based on interest in molecular biology or ecology. Third-year includes Biology 3112 or 3013, electives from Lists A and B, Biology 3012 (meeting the Indigenous Content Requirement), and various upper-level non-Biology courses. In fourth year, students take Biology 4101 or another 4th-year Biology course, additional electives from Lists A/B, and further senior-level Biology and Type C courses. Those aiming for graduate school are encouraged to complete Biology 4101 (thesis), requiring prior arrangement with a faculty supervisor. Directed studies cannot be counted concurrently with the thesis course.
