COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) at Lakehead University is a four-year program that blends classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience to prepare students for professional nursing practice. In first year, students are introduced to foundational nursing concepts through courses such as Nursing 1050, 1051, and 1080, alongside Psychology 1100 and Mathematics 0212. This year focuses on core skills development in lab and theory, with early clinical exposure. In second year, students expand their clinical understanding through courses like Nursing 2055, 2056, 2212, and 2520, which integrate classroom learning with lab and clinical placements. A half-credit elective is also included. Third year deepens clinical competencies through a series of Nursing 3030-level courses and Nursing 3511, 3512, and 3513, combining lecture, lab, and clinical formats to strengthen decision-making and patient care skills. An additional elective supports academic breadth. In fourth year, students complete three theory-based courses—Nursing 4050, 4051, and 4111—delivered in one six-week block, followed by three intensive clinical placements—Nursing 4501, 4502, and 4503—each taken over six weeks. This final year emphasizes professional readiness, critical thinking, and integration of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice. Graduates are well-prepared to write the NCLEX-RN licensing exam and pursue careers in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, community health, long-term care, and Indigenous and rural communities.
