COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year Bachelor of Science (Natural Science Major) program offers a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to studying the biological sciences, designed for students who wish to gain a foundational understanding of biology without the intensity of a traditional science specialization. In the first year, students complete Biology 1050 and 1051, two full course equivalents (FCEs) in Type A courses, one FCE in a Type C course not in Biology, and one FCE elective. This foundational year introduces core concepts in life sciences while encouraging exploration of the humanities and broader sciences. In the second year, students build on their biological knowledge by taking Biology 2210 and Biology 2171, along with one additional FCE in Biology at the second-year level or higher. The curriculum also includes one FCE in a Type C course not in Biology, one FCE in Type A and/or Type B courses at the second-year level or higher, a 0.5 FCE elective, and a 0.5 FCE Type E elective, which supports the Indigenous Content Requirement. In the third and final year, students deepen their specialization with two FCEs in Biology at the third-year level or higher, one FCE elective, one FCE in a Type C course not in Biology, and one FCE in Type A and/or Type B courses at the third-year level or higher. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their interests while developing critical thinking, biological literacy, and an understanding of environmental and life systems.
