COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (General Program) is a flexible three-year degree offered at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses, designed to minimize the restrictions of traditional science programs by giving students significant freedom in course selection. Students are required to complete a total of fifteen full course equivalents (FCEs), distributed across three years (five FCEs per year), with a few key academic regulations. A maximum of seven FCEs can be at the first-year or zero level, and at least eight FCEs must be Type C courses from the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies, including a minimum of two FCEs at the third-year level or higher. No more than four FCEs may be taken from outside the Faculties of Science and Environmental Studies and Social Sciences and Humanities. Students must also complete at least 0.5 FCE in a Type E course to fulfill the Indigenous Content Requirement. To graduate, students must complete the final five FCEs while registered in the program, unless special permission is granted by the Dean or the Dean’s delegate. Additionally, a minimum average of 60% is required in Type C courses taken from the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. Advanced credits from courses taken outside the faculty or from other institutions must be approved by a program advisor. Throughout their studies, students are encouraged to consult with the Dean or their delegate to ensure appropriate course selection and program progression. The program’s structure supports academic exploration while maintaining essential standards for graduation.
