COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation program at Lakehead University is a four-year interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the outdoor recreation field. In the first year, students take foundational courses including Outdoor Recreation 1010, 1070, 1150, and 1310, alongside English 1016, and one FCE from disciplines such as Anthropology, Geography, Indigenous Learning, Psychology, and more, plus one and a half FCE electives. The second year builds on this foundation with core Outdoor Recreation courses such as 2210, 2010, 2011, 2270, 2511, 2350, and 2755, and two and a half FCE electives. In the third year, students advance into more specialized topics through Outdoor Recreation 3050, 3312, and 3370, two additional third-year Outdoor Recreation FCEs, one half FCE at the fourth-year level, and one elective FCE at the second year level or higher. In the fourth and final year, students take Outdoor Recreation 4370, two fourth-year Outdoor Recreation FCEs, one half FCE in Outdoor Recreation at the third or fourth-year level, and two elective FCEs at the second-year level or higher. The program emphasizes experiential learning, community engagement, and critical thinking, with options to specialize further or combine studies with Concurrent Education or a second major. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in outdoor education, park management, recreation therapy, tourism, and other related fields, equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
