COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science program with a Geology major at Lakehead University is a four-year comprehensive program designed to equip students with strong foundational and advanced knowledge in environmental science and geology. In the first year, students take core Environmental Studies courses alongside introductory Geology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English courses, plus a half-credit elective. Students who lack high school chemistry or advanced functions mathematics are required to complete preparatory courses before moving on to first-year chemistry and mathematics requirements, which may be waived based on performance. The second year includes Biology, advanced Geology courses, and Physics, providing students with essential interdisciplinary scientific skills. In the third year, students deepen their understanding of Environmental Studies and Geology through courses like Environmental Studies 2013, 2210, 2610, and 3094, alongside upper-level Geology classes and Geography 2351, supported by Mathematics 2310 and 2311 for analytical skills. The final year focuses on advanced Environmental Studies and Geology courses, including Environmental Studies 4810 and Geology 4181, with opportunities to choose two and a half FCEs from a broad list of specialized Geology courses such as structural geology, mineralogy, and hydrogeology, complemented by one FCE elective. This structure ensures students gain a well-rounded education combining environmental science principles with in-depth geological knowledge, preparing graduates for diverse careers in environmental consulting, resource management, or further graduate studies in geosciences.
