COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering at Lakehead University is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in electrical and electronic engineering. The first year introduces foundational courses such as Electric Circuit Theory, Computer Logic Circuits, and Semiconductor Physics, along with mathematics and programming, totaling 15 lecture hours and 6 lab/tutorial hours in the fall, and 18 lectures and 7 labs in the winter. In the second year, students delve deeper into Electronics, Control Systems, Electric Machines, Power Electronics, and Engineering Thermodynamics, while also undertaking a Technology Project and Principles of Engineering Mechanics, with a balanced mix of lectures and labs totaling around 34 hours per term. The third year focuses on advanced circuit analysis, product design, control systems, and engineering economics, with additional courses in mathematics and physics, alongside a key Indigenous Content course, Sociology 2755, fulfilling program requirements. In the final year, students engage in specialized topics such as Digital Communication Systems, VLSI Circuit Design, Digital Signal Processing, and RF Circuits Design, culminating in a significant Degree Project spread across both terms. Complementary studies electives and engineering electives supplement the curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded education. The program is designed to meet industry standards and is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). It balances rigorous technical training with professional practice, preparing graduates for diverse careers in electrical engineering, including roles in communication systems, industrial control, and power generation and distribution, making them highly sought after in the global job market.
