COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Lakehead University is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The first year covers foundational courses such as Electrical Engineering, Introductory Chemistry, Professional Communications, and Calculus, with labs and tutorials emphasizing hands-on learning. In the second year, students delve deeper into applied chemical thermodynamics, unit operations, organic and analytical chemistry, and engineering mechanics, with extensive laboratory work to reinforce concepts. At this stage, students are also required to apply for an Engineering Technology Diploma in Chemical Engineering. The third year focuses on advanced topics including material and energy balances, mass transfer separations, materials science, plant design economics, chemical reactor design, and numerical modeling, supplemented by engineering electives and complementary studies. Laboratory investigations and practical applications remain integral. In the fourth year, students engage in specialized courses like chemical plant design, process control, professional practice and law, polymer chemistry, and a significant degree project that spans both terms. The curriculum also includes courses addressing technology, society, and Indigenous perspectives, reflecting Lakehead’s commitment to social awareness.
