COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce program at Lakehead University is structured over four years, requiring students to successfully complete a combination of core business courses and electives each year. In the first year, students take foundational courses including Introduction to Business, Financial Accounting, Principles of Information Systems, Quantitative Analysis I and II, and Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, alongside 1.5 full course equivalents (FCEs) of open electives outside business, totaling 5.0 FCEs. Progression to the second year requires satisfactory completion of first-year courses with at least a 60% average. The second year builds on this foundation with courses such as Managerial Accounting, Marketing I and II, Foundations of Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour, and Intermediate Finance, plus Business Communications I and II, totaling another 5.0 FCEs. Students must maintain a minimum 70% average in second-year business courses to advance to the third year. The third year includes advanced topics like Canadian Business in the Global Environment, Data and Information Management, Business Modeling and Decision Analytics, Governance, Ethics and Indigenous Business, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management Theory, and Business Communications III, along with 2.0 FCEs of electives at the second and third-year levels, totaling 5.5 FCEs. Fourth-year students must have a 70% average in third-year courses and complete Business Law, a Strategic Management Project, 1.0 FCE of business electives, and 3.0 FCEs of open electives at the third-year level or higher, summing to 5.0 FCEs. The program emphasizes academic progression and elective flexibility, preparing students for diverse business careers.
