COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media, Film, and Communications program requires the completion of 20 full course equivalents (FCEs) over four years, with specific distribution requirements to ensure a broad and interdisciplinary education. At least three FCEs must be from Type A (Humanities) or Type B (Social Sciences) courses, at least three FCEs must be from Type C (Engineering, Mathematical and Natural Sciences) or Type D (Health and Behavioural Sciences) courses, and at least 0.5 FCE must be from Type E courses, which includes Indigenous content. The Indigenous Content Requirement is fulfilled by taking a 0.5 FCE from the list of Type E courses such as Media, Film, and Communications 2310 or 4550, recommended at any year of the program. In the first year, students take 0.5 FCE in Interdisciplinary Studies, Media, Film, and Communications 1010, 1030, and 1050, plus 0.5 FCE from General Science or select Media, Film, and Communications or Visual Arts courses, along with 2.5 FCE electives, adhering to the required course types. The second year includes Media, Film, and Communications 2010, 2230, a choice between 2030 or 2610, 1.5 FCEs in second-year Media courses, and two electives, again meeting the distribution requirements. In the third year, students take 0.5 FCE from either 3630 or 3690, 0.5 FCE in third-year Interdisciplinary Studies, 2.5 FCEs in advanced Media courses, and 1.5 FCE electives at second-year level or above. The fourth year consists of Media, Film, and Communications 4801, one additional fourth-year Media course, and three electives at the second-year level or higher, maintaining the balance of required course types throughout the program.
