COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Sustainability program at Lakehead University offers a comprehensive four-year curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address modern environmental challenges. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as Environmental Sustainability 1033, 1110, and 1130, alongside Geography 1150, Geology 1130, Mathematics 0210 or 0212, Chemistry 2610, and one and a half full-course equivalents (FCE) electives. The second year builds on this foundation with courses including Environmental Sustainability 2033, Biology 2210 and 2711, Economics 2212, Natural Resources Management 2054 or Indigenous Learning 2054, Geography 2232, 2331, and either Geography 2351 or 3313, along with Environmental Sustainability 2111 and a half-course elective. The third year focuses on advanced topics such as Environmental Sustainability 3013, 3033, 3053, and 3073, Biology 3610, and either Geography 3471 or Environmental Sustainability 3111, complemented by two FCE electives. In the final year, students complete Environmental Sustainability 4010 and 4033 or Environmental Sustainability 4901, along with Environmental Sustainability 4013, 4110, and Biology 4711, Environmental Sustainability 4111, and two FCE electives. This curriculum ensures students develop a multidisciplinary understanding of environmental science, economics, and resource management, preparing them for careers in sustainability, environmental consulting, policy, or further academic study. The program’s broad range of courses combines scientific rigor with practical applications, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for addressing global sustainability challenges.
