COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology program at Lakehead University is structured to provide a comprehensive and flexible education across four years. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as Psychology 1111 and 1112, along with two FCEs from Type A Humanities, one FCE from Type B Social Sciences, and one elective, with a recommended Type C or D course to broaden their knowledge. The second year delves deeper with courses including Psychology 2110, 2112, 2013, 2014, 2015, and either 2011 or 2016, complemented by one-half FCE Type E course, one FCE open elective, and one-half FCE non-psychology elective at the second-year level or higher, allowing students to build both breadth and depth. During the third year, students continue with advanced psychology courses such as Psychology 3112 and 3015, with options including 3114 or 3013, 3014 or 3019, and 3016 or 3017, plus one FCE psychology elective, one-half FCE open elective, and one FCE non-psychology elective at the second-year level or higher, fostering specialized study alongside interdisciplinary exploration. The fourth year emphasizes research and advanced topics through courses like Psychology 4901, 4111, and 4611, along with additional psychology electives at the third or fourth-year level and open electives, preparing students for professional or graduate study. This well-rounded curriculum ensures students graduate with a solid foundation in psychological theory, research, and application, while encouraging academic flexibility and interdisciplinary learning.
