COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy is a four-year program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of philosophical thought and critical inquiry. In the first year, students take one full-course equivalent (FCE) in Philosophy at the introductory level, alongside one FCE from Type A courses (Humanities), two FCEs from Type B courses (Social Sciences), and one elective FCE, which may include a Type E course to fulfill the Indigenous content requirement. In the second year, students build on this foundation by completing Philosophy 2614 and an additional two and one-half FCEs in second-year Philosophy courses, complemented by two elective FCEs. The third year emphasizes advanced philosophical study with Philosophy 3615 and two and one-half FCEs in Philosophy at the third or fourth-year level, alongside two elective FCEs, allowing students to tailor their academic experience. The final year focuses on specialization, requiring one and one-half FCEs in fourth-year Philosophy courses, an additional one and one-half FCEs in third or fourth-year Philosophy, and two electives. Throughout the program, students develop essential skills such as critical analysis, argument interpretation, research, and philosophical writing. This program offers the flexibility to combine Philosophy with other disciplines, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to understanding fundamental questions about knowledge, truth, and ethics. The curriculum’s structure ensures a balance between breadth and depth, preparing graduates for diverse career paths or further academic pursuits.
