COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) in Anthropology is offered at both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses and follows the academic regulations set by the University and the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. All fourth-year course selections must be approved by the department to ensure academic alignment. The Indigenous Content Requirement for the program is fulfilled by completing Anthropology 1034. In the first year, students are required to take Anthropology 1032 and 1034, one full course equivalent (FCE) from Type A (Humanities) courses, English 1015 and an additional 0.5 FCE in first-year English, one FCE from Type B (Social Sciences) courses, and one FCE elective. The second-year curriculum includes Anthropology 2110, 2112, 2137, 2515, 2517, and 2151, along with two FCE electives. In the third year, students must complete two FCEs in Anthropology at the third-year level, one additional FCE in Anthropology, and two FCE electives. The final year requires two FCEs in Anthropology at the fourth-year level, one additional Anthropology FCE, and two FCE electives. The program is designed to offer a comprehensive and well-rounded education in the four main subfields of anthropology—Archaeology, Bioanthropology, Linguistics, and Socio-Cultural Anthropology—while allowing room for interdisciplinary exploration through electives. With opportunities for hands-on experience, research collaboration with faculty, and field school participation, the HBA in Anthropology prepares students for graduate studies or diverse careers in research, heritage management, cultural resource analysis, or community development.
